English for Negotiations |

Objetive: This is one of three tutor-lead skills courses
aimed at managers, executives and professionals working in any sector who need to improve
their communication skills in English for presentations, negotiations or meetings. Each
course is for closed groups and lasts 16 hours. It is clear that to be a skilled
negotiator you need more than just the correct expression at the right moment. You need
both the language and the skills. The objective of this course is to review approaches to
the different stages of a negotiation and to provide appropriate language for each of
these stages.

Course
Design:
The negotiation
usually follows an accepted structure and the course has been designed within this
structure and identifies all the key language that you will need to negotiate successfully
in English. If you are hoping to create a long-term business relationship with your
negotiating partner it is esential to collaborate, not confront. When you are looking for
a win win situation you must be aware of the importance of a variety of structures
and expressions. |

Method: This
skills course focuses on improving the ability to communicate in English in the specific
area of negotiations. A wide range of teaching materials and methods is used to ensure
that the course is both relevant and enjoyable. Essential language is presented and
practised, in context, in a variety of exercise types. Important areas of vocabulary and
grammar with specific relevance to the language of negotiations are also covered. Each
part of the negotiation is practised through role-play and time is allocated for
participation in a full negotiation which is recorded and analysed with feedback for each
course member.

- Socialising before the negotiation.
- Stating and agreeing objectives.
- The listening skill.
- Generating options.
- Clarifying.
- Negotiating in a team.
- Making an offer.
- Conditional forms.
- Bargaining.

Taking into account the characteristics of the course participants should
have an intermediate or upper-intermediate level of English. |
